Safety instructions and useful information on using hammers

Information on occupational safety when using hammers:

• Wear safety goggles and protective gloves when working.
• Only use hammers for their intended purpose.
• Do not use hammers as levers.
• Choose the type and size of hammer according to the work to be carried out.
• Before and during work, check that the hammer head is firmly attached to the hammer handle.
• Only use the working surfaces of the hammer.
• Blows with the side surfaces can damage the unhardened hammer eye and endanger the secure fit of the handle.
• Never hit two hammers against each other and never hit workpieces that are harder than 46 HRC with steel hammers. Use a suitable soft-face hammer for this.
• Avoid impacts.
• Do not use hammers that have a beard on the track or pin.
• In areas where there is a risk of explosion, only hammers with the appropriate approval may be used (avoid flying sparks).
• Do not store wooden handle hammers in an environment that is too warm or too dry, or in an environment that is too humid. As a natural product, wood loses moisture and shrinks or swells, damaging the fibers. Both of these things endanger the secure fit of the handle.
• Always use only suitable replacement handles and wedges.
