Safety instructions and useful information on using files and raspss

Information on occupational safety when using files and rasps:

  • General safety instructions
Files and rasps are intended for manually processing and shaping materials such as metal, wood or plastic. Only use files and rasps for the intended materials and tasks and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the work area, especially when working with sharp tools.
  • Hazards and risk assessment
Improper use, such as applying excessive pressure or using them on unsuitable materials, can cause tool or material damage and injury. Only use files and rasps for their intended applications. Worn, bent or damaged files and rasps can break off and cause injury. Check the tools for visible damage or wear before each use. Unsafe posture or incorrect positioning of the files or rasps can lead to uncontrolled movements and injury. Hold the tool securely and guide it over the surface of the workpiece in a controlled manner. Filing or rasping creates chips and splinters that can damage the eyes, skin or respiratory tract. Therefore, wear suitable protective equipment such as safety glasses and gloves.
  • Safety instructions for operation
Only use intact files and rasps that are suitable for the material and the task. Make sure that the handle of the file or rasp is securely fastened and undamaged. Hold the workpiece securely in a jig or with a clamp. Work with even pressure and in controlled strokes to protect the material and tool. Always guide the tool away from the body to avoid injury.
  • Maintenance and care
Clean files and rasps of material residue after each use, e.g. with a file brush. Check the tools regularly for wear, cracks or deformation and replace damaged tools immediately. Store files and rasps in a dry, clean place to protect them from corrosion and damage. To avoid damage, make sure that the cutting surfaces do not come into contact with other tools.
  • Emergency measures in case of malfunction:
Put the tool down immediately if damage or malfunction occurs. - Replace damaged or worn files and rasps. Injuries caused by chips or sharp edges should be treated and disinfected immediately. In case of serious injuries or foreign bodies in the skin or eyes, a doctor should be consulted.
  • Special notes:
Use the appropriate types for specific tasks (e.g. half-round files, roughing files, rasps for wood). Work in well-lit and ventilated areas to ensure safety and precision. Make sure the handle of the tool is ergonomic and fits securely in the hand to avoid fatigue and slipping. Make sure that the surface of the workpiece is free of foreign matter to prevent damage to the file or rasp. Replace tools that have lost their cutting ability in a timely manner to ensure optimal results.
