Successful casting using the ingot mould

1. Soot the inner surfaces and funnels with a candle flame. This insulating layer of soot prevents the melting heat from flowing away too quickly and from bonding with the ingot mould. This also ensures that the material neatly fills the ingot mould.
2. To prevent quenching, heat the ingot mould to approx. 100-200°C (water drop must evaporate immediately). At the same time, this also prevents splashing of the material to be cast.
3. It is essential to ensure the correct melting temperature, as the difference between the melting temperature of gold (1063°C) and the ingot mould material (1150°C) is relatively close.
