BACKING ENAMEL

Backing enamel, lead-free

• opaque
• Firing temperature between 780° C and 850° C
• Contents: approx. 45 g
• lead-free
• for copper, silver, gold and iron
• Color variations are possible on different materials and at different firing temperatures.

Backing enamel is a covering enamel for application to metal surfaces. The cbacking enamel is applied to the back of the metal supports to prevent or reduce warping during firing.

The enamel powder is mixed with sandalwood oil. Flat decorations are painted on with a brush. After around 10 hours, when the oil from the paint has completely dried, the object can be fired in the oven. When applying the baking enamel powder to the entire surface, mix it with an adhesive; this reduces the drying time to just a few minutes.

Difference between opaque and transparent enamel

• With opaque enamel, the metal surface is no longer visible after firing.
• With transparent enamel, the metal base still shines through clearly.

Firing temperatures

• The firing temperatures for jewelry enamel are between 800° and 900°C, and the muffle turns bright red.
• The melting time is around 2 to 3 minutes, depending on the size of the material.
• The firing process can be interrupted at any time and repeated as often as desired.
